Policies for Community Borrowers

Responsibilities

  • Borrowing privileges are extended to affiliates of participating Houston institutions.
  • Fines of $5.00 or more will block checkouts and prevent online renewals.
  • Overdue items will also prevent online renewals.
  • You will be charged the cost of any lost or damaged items charged to your account in addition to a non-refundable $40 processing fee per item.
  • All books are subject to recalls.
  • Need to check your account online? Lost your ID # and/or PIN? Contact Circulation.

Special Circulation Services

  • Holds: You may request that a book charged to another borrower be held for you when it is returned.
  • Searches: You may ask the Circulation staff to search for a book you cannot find on the shelf. When the book is available you will be notified.
  • Library Service Center (LSC) requests: Items requested and retrieved from the LSC may be borrowed from the Circulation Desk.  Allow one business day for processing and retrieval.
  • Online User Services: View your user status, renew books, place holds/recalls, and to request items from the LSC. Log on with your user ID and PIN.
  • Recalls: Recall a book checkout to another user
  • Renewal: Renew online or at Circulation desk
  • Lost Or Damaged Material: Materials lost or damaged while checkout on your account will be charged to you
