About

Lisa Spiro serves as the Assistant University Librarian for Digital Scholarship and Organizational Development at Rice University’s Fondren Library, where she oversees the Rice Research Repository, the Digital Media Commons, the GIS/Data Center, Research Data Services, and the Kelley Center for Government Information.  

Lisa founded the Digital Research Tools (DiRT) wiki, served in leadership roles for organizations such as the Texas Digital Humanities consortium and the Association for Computers and the Humanities, and was a Frye Leadership Institute Fellow and an ARL Leadership Fellow. Lisa’s publication record includes "This Is Why We Fight: Defining the Values of the Digital Humanities" and "Getting Started in Digital Humanities.” Dedicated to mentoring students, Lisa founded and directs the Fondren Fellows program and served as the first faculty advisor for the Rice Historical Review. She also oversees recruitment for professional library staff and established a mentoring and on-boarding program for new staff at Fondren. As part of her work to champion sustainability, she co-facilitates the DLF Climate Justice Working Group and chairs Fondren Library's Green Team.

Lisa earned a Ph.D. in English from the University of Virginia and a BA in history and English from Rice University.
